Tempera Wash on Silk, inspired by Gongbi style of traditional Chinese paintings. This art work depicts two black necked flying cranes of Asia, an endangered species of birds in their natural habitat. Traditional tempera paint is an ancient, fast-drying medium made by mixing powdered pigments with a water-soluble binder. Known for its luminous matte finish and exceptional durability, it was the dominant painting technique before oil paints emerged during the Renaissance. The surface of the painting is prepared by mounting silk cloth on hard board.
