Day and Night
Medium: Fiberglass and Transparent Resin
Height: Approximately 2 feet
Day and Night explores the relationship between light, shadow, and the perception of form. The three-sided pyramidal sculpture is divided into two sections, representing the contrasting qualities of sunlight and moonlight.
Using trees as the central subject, the sculpture examines how varying intensities of light transform the appearance of an object. In daylight, light and shadow reveal the fullness, volume, and rounded forms of the trees, while at night, reduced illumination allows only their silhouettes and outlines to emerge.
The pyramid is chosen for its symbolic connection to the refraction and transformation of light. Through the interplay of opaque fiberglass and transparent resin, the sculpture highlights how light and darkness work together to define form, depth, and visibility. The work reflects on how the same object can be perceived differently under changing conditions of light, revealing that our understanding of form is shaped as much by darkness as by illumination.
